Roof Bolting Championships

Rambor is a keen supporter and sponsor of roofbolting championships organised by the mining communities that support our Company.

In the last year Rambor staff have attended and even entered, regional and national roofbolting competitions held in New South Wales, Queensland and Tasmania.

The format of these events is usually that two teams (each of two people) are bolting at the same time.

When the starter's gun goes off, the teams race into position, one team member carrying the roofbolting machine to beneath a concrete block (suspended approx. 2m above the ground) while the other carries the drill steels.

Once set up, they drill into the block the required depth, a chemical resin is inserted into the hole and then a 1.5m  roofbolt, which is spun for approx. 15 seconds to tighten its hold. Prizes for each event go to the teams who complete the task in the fastest times.

Competitive roofbolting events allow underground coal miners to demonstrate the skill and teamwork that is required to quickly and safely undertake roofbolting operations.
